SPAR supermarkets are modern local suppliers with a sales surface area of up to 2,000 m² featuring a special emphasis on the fresh produce sector. They combine professional standards and value-for-money advantages with the typical qualities of a neighborhood supermarket. The innovative City SPAR market is a special type of SPAR supermarket primarily implemented in Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovenia. Foods are offered in small markets located in highly frequented inner city areas - an appropriate concept to meet the requirement of city customers. Another special type of SPAR supermarket is the “SPAR 2000” with a sales area of approx. 2.000 m². This type of market is opened for the customers in Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary, where they can immerse themselves in the great world of food. The core of this type of market is designed as a liberally designed market place for fresh produce. DeSPAR markets are exclusively located in Italy. They are primarily run by independent retailers. Italy is also the only ASPIAG country where EUROSPAR markets are to be found. On a sales area up to 2.500 m², they offer an extended fresh produce assortment and strong non-food departments. The total number of SPAR, DeSPAR and EUROSPAR markets in Northeast Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Croatia amounts to 982 (as of the end of 2011).
